Brentwood's population has grown from 7,500 in 1990 to more than 67,000 today, with the majority of homes built after 2000.
Brentwood was incorporated in 1948 with a population of just a few thousand, positioned as a bedroom community at the eastern edge of the Bay Area. From the 1990s onward, the city's growth accelerated dramatically: the population doubled between 1990 and 2000, doubled again between 2000 and 2010, and has continued to climb steadily. Today the city approaches 67,000 residents, making it one of the fastest-growing municipalities in California.
The majority of Brentwood's housing stock was constructed in the 2000s and 2010s, with a median construction year of 2003. New families continue to arrive for the schools, the lower cost of living compared to west county, and the commute to jobs throughout the Bay Area and beyond. The city is known for low crime rates and highly ranked schools, features that drew many young families during the region's decades of rapid expansion.
Rapid population growth brings both opportunity and obligation.
